Narrow Gauge Diesel Locomotive

locomotive no. 7

{photo: anon}

This locomotive was probably stationed on the 2-foot industrial gauge railway at the zinc smelter at Avonmouth. It appears that it has just undergone some repairs to its bodywork making it very likely that this is the same locomotive as shown on the previous page as having met with an unfortunate accident.

The number 7 is clearly visible on the body of the locomotive and thus it is almost certain that this locomotive was one of the Ruston-Hornsby ones used on this system. If this is correct then this locomotive was built in 1950 and sold or scrapped in 1972 [source Mike Vincent, "Lines to Avonmouth", Oxford Publishing Co.1979]. A further photo showing its front confirms that it is a Ruston-Hornsby.
